What is Damping?
Damping happens when an oscillating system (like a pendulum or a spring) loses energy due to friction or air resistance, causing its motion to gradually slow down and stop.

  • A swinging pendulum slows down over time due to air resistance, and its swings become smaller until it comes to rest.
